Chicago Area Students Hear Of Shimer Plan[]

Approximately 150 prospective students, their parents and friends met with current Shimer students from the Chicago area, members of the administration and faculty in the Champlain Building, 37 South Wabash Ave., Chicago, Saturday morning, Jan. 17. Purpose of the conference was to acquaint the guests with Shimer’s unique educational plan.

Irv Kupcinet, well-known Chicago Sun-Times columnist, and Shimer trustee, was a featured speaker. Shimer’s newest building, the Karyn Kupcinet Playhouse, completed in 1968, was named for the Kupcinets’ daughter whose untimely death in Hollywood in 1963 cut short a promising career as an actress.

Short talks by faculty and administrators explaining the Shimer program, scholarships and financial aid were followed by a question and answer period. Refreshments were served in a friendly, informal atmosphere as current students, faculty and administration members visited personally with the guests after the conference.
