Very Fine Recital by the Pupils of Miss Totten's Class.
Mt. Carroll, Dec. 14.—Tbe pupils of Miss Totten's class gave a recital at the academy last evening. The following is the program: Etudes, Shepherd's Evening Hymn, On the Lake, Heller, Miss Frederick; Jonglerie, Godard, Miss Shreiner; Largo (Sonata Appassionata), Beethoven, Miss Halderman; Nocturne, B flat, Chopin, Miss Fry; Warrior Song, (Etude), Heller, Miss Pound; Gigue, Cheminade, Miss Kinney; Etude E major, Chopin, Miss Sanford; In My Neighbor's Garden, Nevin, Miss Smith; Thou Sublime, Sweet Evening Star, Wagner-Liszt, Miss Sheldon; Dornroschen, Bendel, Miss Baird; Barchetta, Nevin, Miss Kenyon; Concerto, E minor, (allegro), Chopin, Miss Arnold; orchestral accompaniment by Miss Totten. The reception rooms were full of invited guests, mostly friends of the pupils. It would be difficult to select the best players but Miss Arnold played exceptionally well and if she remains under Miss Totten until the close of the year she will be a brilliant player. Miss Sheldon and Miss Baird also played beautifully. They are members of the senior musical class. The orchestral accompaniment to quite a number of the selections by Miss Totten was very fine. These same pupils will probably give other recital at the close of the year. Judging from the numbers attending the musical recitals at the academy this fall Mt. Carroll people appreciate good music. Miss Totten will give a public recital the 10th of January, and some applications have already been made for tickets.
