Shimer new dorm Carrollton Inn

New Dorm, summer 2010

The New Men's Dorm, or New Dorm, was a men's dormitory on the Mount Carroll campus of Shimer College. It was built in the 1964-1965 during the school's largest and last period of expansion in Mount Carroll. Now just another vacant building in Mount Carroll, the New Dorm sits at the southeasternmost corner of the built campus, behind the Kupcinet Playhouse and separated from the rest of the campus by Jackson Street.

The brick used in construction was used Galena brick, from the Galena brickworks in Ohio, and was selected to blend in with the older buildings on the campus.

After the closure of the Mount Carroll campus, the New Dorm served for a time as a hotel, the Carrollton Inn.
