Michel Nicola taught at Shimer College in the later Mount Carroll period. He joined the faculty in 1967, just after the Grotesque Internecine Struggle. He served as Dean from 1977 to 1978, helping to introduce the semester project.[1]

Nicola received his BA in Physics from the American University of Beirut in 1954, subsequently studied at the University of Iowa, and obtained his MA in Physics from the University of California Berkeley in 1957.

After leaving Shimer, Nicola taught Arabic at the Defense Language Institute from 1981 to 2006, when he retired.

Michel Nicola (1930–2010) was a Lebanese-American writer and educator, and author of the Thousand and One Nights graded reader for Arabic. He served on the faculty of Shimer College from 1967 to 1981, helping to introduce Shimer's semester project system, and taught Arabic at the Defense Language Institute from 1981 until his retirement in 2006. Born in Lebanon, he held a bachelor's degree from the American University of Beirut and a master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley. (from Shimer College Wiki)
