Shimer College has had some sort of library for almost all of its existence, but the nature of that library has varied dramatically; at times a simple reading room, at times an ornate structure, at times a borrowed space in another institution's library.
As of 2012, Shimer's librarious offerings are divided between a section of IIT's Galvin Library and a modest library/reading room located on the Shimer floor.
