Helen Dixon was a pianist and music teacher at Shimer College during the Mount Carroll period, joining the faculty in 1957 and continuing into the late 1970s.
She was noted for her performance in Shimer auditorium; at a point partway through the 2nd movement of piano piece, the lights went out. There were some reactions and murmurs from the audience, but Helen played on as if nothing had happened.
Born in Hutchinson, Kansas, she graduated from Hutchinson High School and subsequently attended Hutchinson Junior College, later studying piano under Rudolph Ganz at Chicago Musical College, where she received her B.Mus. in 1947, and taught from 1944 to 1949. She went on to complete an AM in musicology from the University of Chicago in 1955.
