Presence at Shimer

Seminary period alum

Mount Carroll, Illinois
Butte, Montana

Grace Penfield, née Grace K. Harvey of Mount Carroll, was a student at Shimer College in the late Seminary period. She graduated with a music diploma in 1894, and an academic diploma in 1895.

Issues of the Annual Calendar until 1905 show her in Mount Carroll and under her maiden name; subsequent issues show her in Butte, Montana under her married name.

She may be the Grace Penfield who married W.H. Penfield, chief engineer on the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad, who also resided in Butte. This Grace Penfield was the namesake of Grace, Montana, a onetime station stop in Silver Bow County near Whitehall.
