Opening of the School

Arrived in Mt. C. May 8 Opened Wed., May 11, 1853

Organized under the name of the Sem'y. "First circular published by Board of Corporators before we were there." School dates from that time. "Though we thus organized under the B., it was only for moral or social support. "No financial support" except as pupils were furnished.

Conducted the school one & a quarter years thus. Oct. '55 went into the building the corporators had put up during the summer of '55 & organized really & practically under the charter, the B. assuming for the first the financial support in the conduct of the school, with Miss Gregory & self entering on work as salaried teachers for the munificent salary of $300 per calendar year.
