Monday 4.th Independence day. No school today. Cinda not being well, we did not intend to go to the celebration but when the time came a carriage was sent for us & and we could do no less than accept. Mr. Reubin Brush waited upon [w] there & Mr. R[...] son brought us home. The oration was quite good- delivered by an irish patriot, Edmund Bunk?. A great crowd of people were in attendance [...] tables set in the grove- a good dinner etc etc In the afternoon we called on Miss Pierce at Rev.J. V. Allison's. Miss Penington's, Mr Frohbocks, Mr. Irvine's & Mr. Wilson's & finally at the Post Office. I recvd two letters & a circular.

Tuesday 5.th Two new scholars & three left. The new ones are Mr. "Jack Beaver's" daughters. Those left are Mr. Bartholomew's, as we expected. They are offended because we do not expel Miss Neely for accusing them of writing in her book.

Wednesday 6.th A fine day. Were invited to Mr. Gray's to tea accepted, met Mrs. Campbell there & had quite a pleasant visit. In the evening, Mrs. Irvine called upon us. Spent the evening
