Saturday 2nd. A delightful day. Mr. Geo. Powell called to give Cinda a note on the B.[..]Bank for the amount due her from the District; our Trustees have real(l)y done the fair thing by Cinda, so much better than most districts do, that I think they deserve much credit. After Mr. P. left, Cinda & I set out to make calls; first went to the village, called at Mr. M[....], were invited to take some refreshments, had some cakes, Lemonade & orange etc. ; next called at Mr. Hall's to get some straps for trunk which he made & sent over at evening (five of them) saying he made no charge, but Cinda proposed to pay him by giving him his [.....] Bill of some ten shil(l)ings, I believe which I think very generous [..] her[.]. I will however pay a part of it etc. Next called at Mr. N[....] & Mr. Penfields & then home, tired to death almost! Cinda & I settled up all our account square. I paid her for my part & Ann's share in the Anatomical Charts (1.66) & for [..Smith?] to send Mr. Stoddard (2.70) my school bill & [....] yet two things remain which I wished to pay that is my part

Sabbath 3.rd A pleasant day, but unaccountably bad going, awful muddy!! Mr. B.C.[Hill?] arrived this morning to visit Ann. I have a miserable headache. H. [.ort] & Matilida called in the P.M.

Monday 4.th A cloudy morning, at noon it set? to rain. Cinda & Ann accompanied by Mr[.] set out for home. David carried them to the village (page cut off) took the 9 o'clock train for Schenectady. I am so lonesome, seems as though night [..] would come- how shall I endure it three long weeks- but then I ought not to think this but rather be happy in anticipation of meeting Cinda with the prospect of no more separating for a long time- how glad I am we have such a hope for were the separation to be for a long time I should give up in despair. [.] [..ite] called to collect my subscription to Mr. B[...]. I paid him. I believe now I have no

debts against me except one to Cinda & that is for her gold pen which I supposed I had lost & forgot to pay her for it & did not think of it till I found it this P.M.I went to the cloths press to get my lawn dress & what should I find in the pocket but the same said pen. I fear Cinda will think strange my saying nothing about paying her for it, but yet she must know it was forgotten, Mary C[....] had a great tantrum today about a letter David fetched up from the P.O. today, she thinks some one has taken it out before & now she will not open it herself. She wants to go right down [in?] the rain to see about it. What a fool she is- she has no more reason than a [brute?] nor half as much-

Tuesday 5.th A very stormy day- the snow comes down in a cloud & much mud, no end or bottom to it. Mary is perfectly beside herself about that letter & set out as soon as she got the morning chores up, for the village to see who took her letter. She came home about 3 P.M.

Town meeting day- the [.....] are victorious electing their entire ticket-I hope Cinda is not riding in the storm too.

Wednesday 6.th A very sunny forenoon & drizzly afternoon.I am very busy sewing.

Thursday 7.th About noon Edward fetched me a letter from Cinda, it was so unexpected that I could not imagine who it was from, but is none the less welcome, in it was a pa(t)tern for an [..]silk hood for which I feel very grateful, not so much for the value of the pa()ttern,but the thought that I was remembered & my gratification thought of when far separated, indeed this trifling thing afforded me more pleasure than a solicited favor of the amount of its [...]"What a strange compound is the human heart, How slig?ht a c[....e] can bliss or woe impart,
