Florence McKee, née Florence Turney, was a student at Shimer College in the late Seminary period and subsequently an instructor during the Academy period. She graduated in 1894, and returned to teach in 1896, although she was intermittently on leave as she completed her baccalaureate studies at the University of Chicago, where she graduated in 1901.

She married William Parker McKee, the school's second president, in 1902. Upon McKee's retirement in 1930, they moved to Urbana, Illinois.
