Sydney Spiesel was a student at Shimer College during the early Great Books period, enrolling via early entrance and graduating in 1961.
In 2012, he was one of three recipients of Shimer's first Alumni Service Awards.[1]

Dr. Sydney Z. Spiesel is a pediatrician specializing in adolescent medicine[1] on the clinical faculty of the Yale University School of Medicine.[2]
Spiesel is the inventor (Template:Patent) of a shampoo that makes lice eggs (nits) fluoresce under ultraviolet light, so making them more visible.[3][4]
Spiesel is a regular commentator for Slate magazine[5] and National Public Radio.[6]
