The University of Chicago is again the recipient of a gift, this time of $350,000. Aud again the donor is a woman. Sho is Mis. F. A. W. Shimer, principal ownor of tho Mount Carroll Female seminary at Mount Carroll, Ills.

Mrs. Shimer gives the seminary property, valued at $100,000, together with $150,000 for endowment purposes, to become a preparatory school for the university. Mrs. Shimer, who ia a Baptist, has conducted the Mount Carroll seminary for 42 years. She is now advanced iu years, suffering from ill health, aud Is anxious to secure the perpetuation of her school.
