Shimer's Oxford study abroad program, also known as the Shimer-in-Oxford program, dates to the 1960s, and has been held either annually or biennially ever since. In the program, a small group of students in their third or fourth years are accompanied to Oxford by a Shimer tutor, who facilitates the required Core curriculum courses while students take their electives from Oxford instructors.
Shimer's year abroad has not always been held at Oxford, and in fact originates in a study abroad program led by John Hirschfield in Paris in 1961.[1] It was also briefly held in Koln in the late 1970s.
