Thursday 7.th A fine day. Were invited to Mr. Wilson's to tea, accepted; quite a shower at evening. Mr. Bartholomew called in the morning & paid his school bill & Book bill, the first was 5.82 the last 4.18.
Friday 8.th A fine cool day. Mrs. Norton called after tea, also Mrs. Dr. Miller. In the evening Rev. C. Gray sent for us to call on him. We went & found he wished to talk with us about arrangements for the next quarter etc. which conversation elicited the following reply. Mr. Gray, President of the Board of Trustees of the Mt Carroll Seminary, Sir, Saturday 9.th We expressed to you at the commencement of our conversation last evening, our willingness to continue the school; but we were not then aware of the combination of causes for discouragement. We were conscious of having discharged our every duty faithfully & trusted that we were associated with a community
