Now we were in something of a quandary what to do, but finally decided that it would not be adviseable to grant the petition any farther than to give our consent for those young ladies to go who wished, but should not suspend the exercises of our school. In the evening Mr. Wilson called twice. I was engaged with our washing so did not see him. One new scholar, L. Drane.

Tuesday 14th. Were invited to Mr. Irvine's to tea, accepted. Mr. Frohock & lady & two sons were there &c. After tea Miss Penington called there, was coming to call on us, so we came home. Extremely warm. Esqr. Miller returned from the East yesterday.

Wednesday 15th. The said "Pic nic" came off today. We expected a thin school, but only two of our young ladies attended; that shows which they are most interested in, school or pleasure parties. A hard shower just at evening. Cinda received a letter from Dr. Watkins & Mary W. Mrs. Irvine & Mrs. Rapp visited our school.
