Prairie House, known in Waukegan architectural history as the Joseph P. Arthur House, was a building built in 1913 in the style of the Prairie School, located at 445 N. Genesee on the Waukegan campus of Shimer College. It was built by Chicago architects Tallmadge & Watson for Joseph P. Arthur, co-founder of the Cyclone Fence Company.
Acquired in the early 1990s, Prairie was the principal administrative building during the later part of the Waukegan period, housing the President's Office, Development Office and Business Office.
Prairie had been the focus of intensive restoration work during its time as part of the Shimer campus, and after the school moved to Chicago in 2006, the new owner continued the restoration process.
