Speaker Re J man, ot the towa House of Reprenentatives, whs born iu Whiteside County, Illinois, in 1840, and comes of excellent Htock, his fiilher having been hi) officer in the Black Hawk war. Young Uedtnun attended Mt. Carrol Heminary several years and at the outbreak of the rebellion enlisted as priv « ate in the Twelfth Illinois Cavalry, At the close of his term of seryico he was mustered out as captain of hi a company. Removing to Posvesheik County, Iowa, he entered the State Uuiversity, and was graduated from the taw department in 1369. He is now serving his second term in the House.
