Mount Carroll, July 1.—For many decades the halls of Frances Shimer junior college have echoed with feminine footsteps,—the quick, light tread of succeeding student classes, and the more dignified steps of the women of the faculty.
This fall, however, a new, masculine note will be dded to the footstep symphony, for a man is about to be admitted to the college faculty.
He is Prof. Eldon R. Burke, former head of the history department at Ohio Northern university, who will be the Frances Shimer history instructor.
Prof. Burke, who has completed all his residence requirements for the doctor of philosophy degree at the University of Chicago, is teaching history at the University of Indiana this summer. He and Mrs. Burke and their six-year-old daughter will arrive here in September and will occupy a house near the Shimer campus.
