From the Mt. Carroll Republican.
N. W. Edwards, Superintendent of Public Instruction, visited the Female Department of this Institution while here on the 26th. In his address in the evening he spoke in high terms of the school and the manner in which it is conducted. Since leaving here he has favored us with a letter containing the following :
“I concur in the opinion expressed by the Trustees of Mount Carroll Seminary, that the location of this institution is one of the most desirable in the West. The location of this building is on an eminence overlooking the village, and one of the most beautiful prairies in the State, on the one side, and tho finest scenery on the other. The arrangements of the rooms, furniture and apparatus, with any other institution in tho West; and the high reputation of the teachers will warrant me in expressing the opinion that Pupils may receive as thorough and finished an education in this institution as any other in the West; their system of instruction is such as will train the mind to habits of thought and investigation. The teachers are well qualified to take charge of a Seminary of the highest grade, having received a finished education in the State Normal School of New York, where they have been thoroughly educated and drilled in the art and practice of teaching— their experience and success have since earned for them a deservedly high reputation.
