Before the first yr—beginning Oct. 24/54, had half passed, the B. begged them to take the work off their hands. They saw only ruin to the enterprise. In Mar. 1855 we took the work off their hands by purchasing the property at the price the B. had contracted to pay the contractor, J.J. Jefferies, for erecting the one building, the size shown by present dining room & stairway down from Library Hall. This purchase price was 4500 mostly on time @ 10%.
