Elizabeth Hostetter, née Elizabeth Barber, was a student at Shimer College in the Seminary period, graduating in 1878. She had already graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1871, and came to Mount Carroll in 1875 to study and teach music. She taught at the Seminary while studying there, being listed in the board of instruction for music for 1877.[1]
She married William Ross Hostetter on June 27, 1878, shortly after graduation; they had two sons and one daughter, A. Beth Hostetter.
She was a member of the first Board of Trustees of the Academy period, and served on the board for 35 continuous years thereafter. W.P. McKee mentions her invaluable help in his early letters to William Rainey Harper.
