Edna Thoreen taught French at Shimer College during the later Academy period. She joined the faculty in 1925, and was still listed in the 1951-1952 catalog.

Thoreen acquired her AB from Lombard College in 1911 and her AM from the University of Illinois in 1914. She subsequently participated in summer courses at various institutions, including the Institute of French Education at Penn State in 1925 and the University de Lille in Boulogne-sur-Mer in 1927.
